How I Earned US$415.94 from Google AdSense in 15 Days and Became Top 1000 in Alexa

By wayangblogger

2010 has been a busy year for me as I tried to juggle with my increasingly demanding blogging hobby at Wayang Times, hectic real-life work and adjusting to my married life. As I went about my routine today, I realised that I have not been checking my Google AdSense earnings for quite a while. During the quiet lunch hours, I decided to log-on to AdSense to admire my usual US$1 to $2 daily earnings. But what I saw brought a silly grin to my face as I stared at my computer screen in disbelief. I have just earned US$415.94 in the first 15 days of January 2010!

This is certainly not something I expected from this blogging hobby which I embarked on almost a year ago because I wanted to try this new thing called “blogging” and to prove that I can handle the “new” Internet to my friends.

Next, I checked my Alexa ranking and was even more surprised to see that I am now ranked the 593th website in Singapore. I am now the owner of the few blogs which managed to become a top 1,000 most visited website in Singapore, according to Alexa analytics. Coincidentally, I am also the top 100,500 in the world!

I delved deeper into the Google Analytics of my blog for the last 15 days and I discovered part of the reason. I was ranking pretty well for some of the search terms people are keying into the search engines. But I know that this is only a small part of the bigger puzzle. When I delved deeper into the figurative rabbit hole, I discovered that the key to such spectacular (in my own opinion) earnings lies in many of the things that I have been doing on my blog for the pass one year or so.

As I tried to calm myself down, a few things came to my mind.

First, I am no longer a newbie blogger trying to find my space in this vast Internet.

Second, while the earnings are impressive, I am no where near the half-million dollar earnings achieved by the top tier pro-bloggers in the States. In fact, I am also no where near the pro-bloggers based in Singapore who are earning more than $10,000 a month.

Third, I need to pen down my ideas, strategies and the tips I have learnt from my blogging experience before I forget them. And what better way than to blog about these.

Fourth, many people, including my friends and significant other have wondered how I achieve what I have today for Wayang Times. Some of my readers have even emailed me to ask me to share my secrets. This seems like the opportunity I have been procrastinating for to start my sharing.

Therefore I decided that I will now share my so-called “secrets” as a Wayang Blogger on this new blog. And it is my wish that this blog will become a key bookmarked resource for you, my readers, as you learn the Wayang ways I deployed to become the Wayang Blogger that I am today.

Wayang Blogger shall be your guide to become a semi-pro blogger in the Internet world.

interesting.. i think it’s because of the type of blog you have.. that’s the key to earning more.. it’s called niche blogs right? personal blogs dont actually earn alot.. unless the owners have been assigned to advertorials.. =)

Well, you’ve been churning out Great articles where people WANT to read which is a good thing. 400 for half a month is absolutely stunning! I must learn from you as I only make a fraction of that.

Many out there are aspiring to be like you or some kennysia and so on but everyone has their own speciality, just a matter of finding it and doing it the right way I guess. I hope your blog does well and keep up the great work!

Although I am very very far from where you are now – I do see a great inspiration from your example.
I want to wholeheartedly congratulate, but on another hand… is it such a good idea to begin the second blog when your primary “baby” is doing so well? Just a thought however :-)
